Custom American Mahjong Manufacturing Process
MANUFACTURING PROCESS
How custom American Mahjong tiles are made.
The production route depends on the material, layer structure and decoration method. Below is a practical overview for custom acrylic and melamine-style Mahjong projects.
Single-layer acrylic Mahjong process
- Material drying: PMMA pellets are dried before injection to reduce bubbles and silver streaks.
- Mold design: multi-cavity molds are polished to support clean surfaces and consistent tile dimensions.
- Injection molding: temperature, pressure and cooling are controlled to reduce stress and deformation.
- Gate removal and trimming: excess material is removed and edges are corrected.
- Annealing: controlled heating and slow cooling help reduce internal stress.
- Sanding and polishing: faces and edges are refined for a smooth hand feel.
- Decoration: silk screen, pad printing, laser engraving with color fill, decals or embedded effects can be used depending on the design.
- Optional hard coating: coating can improve scratch resistance while keeping visual clarity.
- QC and packing: tiles are checked for bubbles, scratches, color variance, size deviation and artwork alignment.
Multi-layer acrylic Mahjong process
- Sheet cutting: colored PMMA sheets are cut into tile blanks or layered panels.
- CNC or laser work: grooves, characters or special contours are cut where needed.
- Deburring and edge correction: cutting marks and burrs are removed.
- Layer bonding: different acrylic colors are bonded to create side stripes, colored backs or four-layer structures.
- Artwork application: UV printing, silk screen, transfer processes or white-ink underlayers are used based on surface color and transparency.
- Polishing: wheel polishing or flame polishing improves edge clarity and hand feel.
- Optional hard coating: a protective finish can be applied for better wear resistance.
- Final inspection and packing: sets are sorted, matched with spares and packed with accessories.
Melamine-style Mahjong process
For classic-feel Mahjong tiles, melamine resin production focuses on dense molding, finishing, pattern decoration, protective glazing and final set sorting.
- Raw material preparation and color matching.
- Molding or forming of tile blanks.
- Gate removal, trimming and edge finishing.
- Sanding and polishing for consistent size and feel.
- Decal, pad printing or hot stamping for characters and decorative details.
- Protective topcoat or glazing to improve wear resistance.
- Final QC for chips, bubbles, color difference, print alignment and complete set composition.
Quality checkpoints
Custom Mahjong production should check both visual and functional quality: tile size tolerance, side layer alignment, face clarity, back color consistency, coating evenness, rack compatibility and complete tile count.
For American Mahjong sets, accessory fit is part of product quality. Tiles, racks, pushers, bags and packaging should be reviewed together before mass production.
